Hyperscaling hydrogen – Turning strategy into reality

Tuesday, 11 June 2024
13:00 -14:00
Hall 4.0, Room Europa

As we move towards a climate-neutral future, great hopes are being pinned on hydrogen as a key element of the energy transition. To date, more than 20 countries of the 56 globally strongest economies have published national hydrogen strategies. Adding up the quantities of hydrogen estimated in these strategies, the global hydrogen potential is in the high four-digit terawatt-hour range per year – an immense figure with correspondingly large opportunities. As the quantities mentioned above indicate: The term “up-scaling” doesn't do justice to the task ahead. “Hyperscaling” is needed to increase capacity and structure by a factor of approximately 100. Especially in heavily industrialised countries with chemical industries or steel production, the demand for hydrogen will be tremendous if these sectors are to become fossil-free. What does it mean for plant engineers, suppliers and energy-intensive industry to scale-up in a short time? What investments are needed for technology development and infrastructure? What international partnerships are being established to import energy in the form of hydrogen? These questions and more will be addressed in the ACHEMA Highlight Session.

Artificial intelligence and autonomous systems in process industry

Wednesday, 12 June 2024
13:00 -14:00
Hall 4.0, Room Europa

The process industry is transforming. New AI tools can help operators increase process efficiency and stability, support process development and plant engineering and drive the energy transition. At some point, we may even see fully autonomous and unmanned systems. But are we ready to let go of human control yet? What steps need to be taken along the way, and what technological and human challenges need to be addressed? These questions and more shall be discussed at the visionary ACHEMA Highlight Session on digital innovation.

Beyond fossil fuels - Exploring alternative carbon sources for a sustainable chemical industry

Thursday, 13 June 2024
13:00 -14:00
Hall 4.0, Room Europa

Fossil-free production is an important and ambitious goal for reducing the process industries' greenhouse gas emissions and a promising way to become independent of fossil feedstocks. The adoption of alternative carbon sources, such as CO2 or biomass, alongside the implementation of a circular economy, have posed substantial challenges to the process industries. While the idea of fossil-free production is simple, it holds many unanswered questions. Join the ACHEMA Highlight Session and learn more.

Nature as a role model – Maximum resource efficiency in the chemical industry

Friday, 14 June 2024
12:00-13:00
Hall 4.0, Room Europa

In a fully resource-efficient chemical industry, chemical processes and products are designed, developed, and executed or manufactured with no or minimal waste generation and maximum sustainability. To achieve this goal, circular economy, energy efficiency, sustainable feedstocks, process intensification and digitalisation must be considered and used in equal measure. Where are we in the implementation of this vision and what do we need to achieve it? These and other questions will be discussed with different experts at this ACHEMA Highlight Session.
